Last skimmer chick on Navarre Beach can’t fly yet, parents standing by

Motorists traveling along the Navarre Beach Causeway are still being urged to slow to 20 miles per hour to protect nesting birds. But instead of protecting the hundreds of black skimmers that were there this spring and summer, they’re saving one little new life.
Experts aren’t sure why this last little skimmer has not developed enough to leave the nest. In the meantime, the speed limit remains lowered to give him every chance to survive. Submitted photo
