Jordan Jefferson has a small window of time to talk with a reporter before the start of practice Monday afternoon.
Navarre’s standout senior defensive lineman walks into the fieldhouse fresh off the first day of school and hits on a full plate of topics. There’s the scrimmage that took place Friday night at Bennett C. Russell Stadium, the preparation for a game this week and recruiting.
First, about that scrimmage.
“We still have a lot of work to do. Coach (Jay Walls) saw some good things and some things we need to work on, but overall, it wasn’t bad,” Jefferson said.
And then there’s the fact that the Raiders will play a preseason game against Louisville (Miss.) Friday night at home. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Wildcats are no pushover. They were 13-3 a year ago and reached the state semifinals.
It’s all the more reason for Jefferson and his Raider teammates to be pumped up about facing a real opponent for the first time since last November.
“It’s the best feeling knowing it’s game week,” Jefferson said.
