UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of a Navarre woman struck by a car along Highway 87 Wednesday.
Valerie Kay Skibo, 49, was walking north along the shoulder of the roadway when a truck struck her from behind.
Original March 13, 1:35 p.m.: A Navarre woman was struck and killed by a car March 13 on Highway 87.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the 49-year-old victim was walking north on the paved shoulder of the road when a red Dodge Dakota came up behind her traveling north in the right lane. The vehicle struck the victim from behind, and she was pronounced dead on the scene at roughly 8:35 a.m.
The victim’s name has not yet been released as next of kin has not yet been notified. The driver was a 17-year-old male from Milton. Alcohol was not involved.
Charges in the case are pending further investigation.
