Fresh fish, crab boils and Sunday beer specials at Where Y’at

Tucked off Highway 87 S in Holley, Where Y’at may appear small from the outside but it’s the local seafood and Louisiana inspired flavors that make the restaurant a big hit with locals and visitors alike.

As the Emerald Coast heads for winter, Where Y’at is keeping things hot with deals that’ll make your mouth water.

Fresh mullet is available at the seafood market for $2.59 per pound dressed and $1.99 per pound whole. You can also buy and eat mullet at the restaurant.

“The mullet fishermen pull up in their truck with their boat, unload the fish right here and then we cut and sell it that day,” said Will Lumpkin, seafood market manager at Where Y’at. “It’s a very fresh fish that the locals love.”

The restaurant is also offering a snow crab boil special for $25.99. The special features a ½ pound of snow crab and a ½ pound of shrimp, with corn, potatoes and sausage.

Where Y’at also offers other specials when available. Lumpkin said people should be on the lookout for oyster specials as well.

In addition to specials, Where Y’at offers a mixture of fried, grilled and blackened platters and baskets, as well as po’boy sandwiches, gumbo, jambalaya and appetizers galore.

Parched? Come enjoy a brew at the bar or at your table. Where Y’at has a variety of drafts on tap, including Urban South and Abita beers from Louisiana. On Sundays, Where Y’at has beer specials. Come enjoy NFL football with $15 domestic buckets and $3 drafts.

On Friday nights, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Where Y’at hosts live music in their outdoor pavilion area. The atmosphere of the restaurant is characteristic of the laid-back lifestyle of the Emerald Coast’s inhabitants.

The restaurant is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., except Tuesdays.

Interested in getting your seafood fix without having to sit down in the restaurant? Where Y’at offers customers catering and seafood market options.

Locally caught seafood, such as blue crab, flounder, sheepshead, snapper and grouper, is available, as well as stone crab and shrimp. Other items, such as seafood dips, can also be purchased through the market.

Lumpkin said the restaurant’s owner and staff are proud to serve seafood from East Bay, Pensacola Bay and the Gulf of America.

“If it’s something we can buy local, we will,” Lumpkin said.

According to Lumpkin, a local crabber comes in a couple times a week to drop off their catch.

Crawfish are always a fan favorite at Where Y’at. While the season is over, Lumpkin said customers can expect crawfish to be back soon.

“We are probably a month away from starting back crawfish season,” Lumpkin said. “By February, we are full fledged with it.

“It’s a big part of our business.”

Another option at Where Y’at is “Cook Your Catch.” After a long day of fishing, you can bring your fish directly to the restaurant and they will cook it for you for simply $8/person. Sides can be purchased a la carte to go along with your meal.

Where Y’at also offers catering for any occasion. Whether you are celebrating a birthday, a retirement or a reunion, Where Y’at will be happy to bring anything from their menu to your doorstep.

In the coming years, Where Y’at plans to expand its operation and, in turn, improve its customer service.

According to Lumpkin, the plan is to expand seafood market options in the future with an additional building next door. A former motorcycle repair shop, the building is currently being renovated.

While it likely won’t be complete anytime soon, the expansion is a showcase in how the business is looking toward the future.
