Firefighters rescue four stray kittens during training

| Staff Reporters
In an unexpected turn during routine training exercises at Midway Station 37, members of Midway Fire District sprang into action to save four stray kittens trapped beneath a training prop roof.

While conducting a live fire drill inside the district’s Conex training containers, firefighters first heard faint cries coming from under an adjacent overhang. Lieutenant Josh Schutz carefully reached into the narrow crevice and was able to gently extract the frightened felines.

Recognizing the danger posed by upcoming smoke‐evolution drills, the kittens were immediately transported to Navarre Animal Hospital for evaluation and care.

“Once we realized the kittens were in harm’s way, it was all hands on deck,” said Captain Anthony Kolokouris. “We’re just glad we were able to get them out safely before any training smoke could reach them.”

The dedicated staff at Navarre Animal Hospital welcomed the four little survivors without hesitation, providing medical examinations, nourishment and a warm, quiet place to recover.

Adoption Opportunities

  • The four rescued kittens will be available for adoption in the near future.
