The 57-year-old man was driving a SUV westbound in the outside lane when it approached a second vehicle, a disabled semi-truck parked partially on the north paved should and partially in the outside westbound lane, facing west.
According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the 57-year-old man failed to slow down or merge into the inside lane to avoid the disabled vehicle.
As a result, the SUV first struck a reflector sign located on the north fog line of the roadway. Immediately following that impact, the SUV collided with the semi-truck’s trailer. The vehicles came to a final rest in the outside westbound lane of I-10, facing west.
The semi-truck was operated by a 41-year-old man from Calera, Alabama, who didn’t sustain injuries, according to the FHP report.
The crash investigation is being handled by FHP.
