Faster care equals less anxiety for kids

Children requiring emergency medical services across the Gulf Coast now have faster access to pediatric specialists, thanks to new telemedicine equipment at The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola.
Joseph Limerick, pediatric critical care paramedic, demonstrates a mini exam camera, one of the new pieces of telemedicine equipment being used by The Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart. While examining a patient in transport, Limerick holds the camera to a body part, such as the eyes, nose or mouth. The image is transferred to a computer and seen by a physician inside The Children’s Hospital in Pensacola, who can assess a patient remotely and even give orders for treatment before the child arrives at the hospital.
