Jason English has been elected Santa Rosa County’s new clerk of court.

English received 18,317 votes, or 55% of the vote, compared to his opponent Ginger Pace’s 14,944 votes, or 45% of the vote.  Incumbent Donald Spencer did not run for re-election.

There are no write-in candidates or democrats in opposition, so there’s no need for the race to continue into November.

English is bringing his experience as a lawyer to the table and plans to work with his team to bring a new energy to the position. However, he plans to keep the same quality standards that the community has come to expect.

“Being an experienced lawyer, knowing the court system like I do, that is a huge asset, one that as far as I know, has never been seen before in the clerk’s office.” English said.

English was confident in himself and his team, and thankful for Spencer being his mentor.

“I’ve got a good team underneath me, and we’re going to sit down and have meetings and discuss what we want to focus on, what direction we want to go,” English said, “Don’s been a great boss, great clerk, a great mentor. He’s been teaching and mentoring me, and for that I’m very thankful.”

English will go into training in December in what is referred to as the “new clerk school” and plans to hit the ground running come January.
