DEP/DOH joint potable water update: Midway Water System, Gulf Breeze

| Staff Reporters
Today, Oct. 22, DEP, in coordination with Santa Rosa County Emergency Management, will be operating a bottled water distribution station.

Hours of Operation: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Community Life Methodist Church
4115 Soundside Drive
Gulf Breeze, FL 32563

Additional availability will be announced as soon as more information is available.

This distribution station is being made available to aid residents impacted by the previously issued boil water notice by the Midway Water System for the area between 4115 Southside Drive and 5012 Southside Drive, including Natures Cove and The Waters subdivisions and adjacent streets.

The boil water notice was issued by the utility following a private contractor plumbing a cross-connection from a residential sewage line to a municipal potable water line, which was confirmed on Oct.18. Boiling water is not effective in disinfecting all bacteriological parameters and is not the most protective measure. Therefore, in an abundance of caution, residents should utilize an alternative water supply, such as bottled water for potable use until testing confirms the water meets all drinking water standards.

DEP and DOH are committed to working together to ensure residents have access to safe drinking water and accurate, timely information regarding the status of their public water supply.

Immediately upon discovery on Oct. 18, the city disconnected the cross-connection and initiated sampling throughout the distribution system. At this time, sampling remains ongoing and the utility continues to chlorinate and flush the lines.
