Courtney ready to build off last season’s success

Marlon Courtney is having the football tossed to him by Navarre head coach Jay Walls after spring practice Wednesday evening.

The drill involves taking the ball and firing a quick short strike to one of the backup quarterbacks.

Every pass is on point.

But that’s to be expected from a quarterback who is not only one of the best in the area but considered to be among the best in the state as well.

That statement is solidified by the fact that Courtney is headed to Nashville this month to compete in the Elite 11 Regional.

“To get that recognition on a national level feels pretty good,” Courtney said. “It’s a good feeling. I’m looking forward to it.”

Courtney is coming off a stellar junior season with the Raiders, one in which he threw for nearly 2,500 yards (2,498), becoming the first quarterback at Navarre to throw for more than 2,000 in a season since 2014.
