County hears water, property rights concerns

Sides fired their opening salvos Thursday in Santa Rosa County’s upcoming water war.

At a workshop planned to review the county’s wellfield protection ordinance, discussion quickly turned to the future of its drinkable water supply.

Gary Eichler, a hydrogeologist and aquifer expert, warns the Santa Rosa County Commission that the sand and gravel aquifer supplying fresh drinking water to the south end of the county is ‘extremely vulnerable.’
