A family from Pensacola is working to change an ordinance that would have forced them to find another home for their pet pot-bellied pig named Buttercup.
Buttercup, a 2-year-old pot-bellied pig, belongs to the Kirkman family. Pensacola City Councilmembers voted 5 to 3 last Thursday to reclassify pot-bellied pigs as domestic animals so that the Kirkmans would not be in violation of the city’s livestock ordinance. A final vote on the issue will take place at a Pensacola City Council meeting March 13.
