Broadcast classrooms connect students, educators from across county

When you walk into Dan Schmitt’s classroom at Holley Navarre Middle School, you immediately notice the rather large screens that dot the front portion of the room. These screens are not meant to show movies or videos, but to help connect students dozens of miles away.

For many years, if you were a student who wanted to take a certain class that wasn’t offered at your school, then you were simply out of luck. But with broadcast classrooms, Santa Rosa County District Schools has given students that chance.

Dan Schmidt, Holley Navarre Middle School teacher, works on getting set up for the day’s lesson. He currently teaches a geometry honors course to four middle schools at the same time.
