Black skimmers are expected to be named a threatened species
It’s that time of year. Migratory ground nesting shorebirds are back – some from as far away as South America. As a result, local speed limits along beach roads have been reduced.
According to Audubon Florida, Black Skimmers this fall could be moved to the state’s threatened species list. A colony of roughly 60 birds is starting to nest on Navarre Beach Causeway.
