BISSELL Pet Foundation fall national “Empty the Shelters” event begins October 1

| Staff Reporters
With animal shelters across the nation facing an overcrowding crisis, thousands of highly adoptable pets are waiting for their second chances. Santa Rosa County Animal Services (SRCAS) is proud to partner with BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, for its Fall National “Empty the Shelters.” From October 1 – 15, BISSELL Pet Foundation will sponsor reduced adoption fees of $50 or less at more than 390 shelters in 44 states. All adoption fees at SRCAS will be just $10 for both cats and dogs, October 1 – 15. View adoptable pets online at www.santarosa.fl.gov/405/Search-Adoptable-Pets.

SRCAS has participated in several BISSELL Pet Foundation “Empty the Shelters” events throughout the last few years. These events have helped find homes for many of Santa Rosa County’s most vulnerable animals.

“We’re excited to be partnering with BISSELL Pet Foundation again to provide such low adoption fees for the first two weeks of October,” said Randy Lambert, Animal Services Chief. “We have been making strides as a shelter to reduce the homeless animal population in Santa Rosa County and events like this are a great way to get people thinking about adding a shelter pet to their family.”

BISSELL Pet Foundation, Empty the Shelters began in 2016 with the goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption. Nearly 283,000 pets have found loving homes since its inception. Empty the Shelters is BISSELL Pet Foundation’s largest program, partnering with 742 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada to reduce adoption fees.

“Right now, our nation’s animal shelters are in crisis with too many pets coming in and not enough adoptions to keep up. Euthanasia rates have hit a 3-year-high, and healthy, adoptable pets are at risk due to space constraints,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Fall National Empty the Shelters offers a chance for the community to save lives through adoption while creating space for shelters to help more pets. If you can’t adopt, fostering can also make a lifesaving difference. Deserving pets across the country are counting on all of us.”

Adoption is a lifetime commitment. BISSELL Pet Foundation and SRCAS urge families to do their research about the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as adoption requirements.
