Back-To-School Finds at Good Neighbor Thrift Store

| Staff Reporters
With students going back to school this month, parents are looking for affordable ways to stock up on school supplies and get their children what they need for the new school year.

Look no further. Good Neighbor Thrift Store has got you covered, all without breaking the bank too. Notebooks start at only $1. They have a nice selection of colorful binders, cute folders, markers and crayons. And the store is stocked with bookbags, starting at $5 and lunchboxes starting at $3.

Need some new-to-you outfits to look stylish for that first day of school? Every Friday, Good Neighbor Thrift Store has huge discounts on all clothing. Children’s clothing is only $1.75 each, and adult clothing is $2.75.

And what is the best part of shopping here? Proceeds of the store go back into ministry and directly help the people of Navarre.

They are open, both for shopping and accepting donations, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Good Neighbor Thrift Store, We Care Ministries and the Lindy Bush Food Pantry are all ministries of the Navarre United Methodist Church. The thrift store helps fund multiple missions such as Navigators, Gideons International, feeding Navarre school children through the Weekend Food Program, Walk on Water Prison Ministry, Bright Bridge Ministries, Set Free Refuge, Navarre Senior Center, Wreaths Around America, Reboot, among many other missions.

They also help provide food to Navarre students who are in need during the school year through the Weekend Food Program. During the 2024/2025 school year, the Weekend Food Program delivered 16,295 bags of food and 867 hygiene bags, with the of the ministries of Navarre United Methodist Church.

The program has an enthusiastic volunteer pool – passionate about feeding and caring for those who might need a little help over the weekend.

Manager Laura Beth Snow is very thankful for the numerous volunteers that dedicate their time to helping the mission of Good Neighbor Thrift Store.

Their store inventory is vast, ranging from furniture and household goods to books, board games and handbags. Good Neighbor has scrubs, maternity clothes and newborn items and clothes. They also carry handicap supplies, such as wheelchairs and crutches. If you are in need, ask a manager for assistance and they would love to help you get the equipment you need at a great price.

“We take pride in our merchandise being clean and functional,” Snow said. “We test things to ensure everything is working.”

Even donated computers that don’t work are given to Always On Computers, a local computer repair shop, recycled and the funds are used to purchase computers for schools in our community.

Anytime the thrift store is open, volunteers accept donations on the side door of the building. Good Neighbor has a finite amount of space, so furniture is accepted as space allows.

If the thrift store is not open, please do not leave donations by the door. They will get damaged by the weather. All donations left outside must be thrown away.

Good Neighbor constantly has sales going on. The type of sale depends on the availability of volunteers, inventory and what they have a lot of each week.

“Every day that the store is open, we have something half-priced or a buy-one get-one- free special,” Snow said.

Make sure to stay tuned to their Facebook page for upcoming sales and special events.

The greeter will tell you the Good Neighbor Deal of the Day when you walk in the doors.

On top of the frequent sales, Good Neighbor offers 10% off to all military servicemen and women.
