Lighthouse Private Christian Academy is in a tough spot at the moment after Malcom Yonge Gym was closed by the city of Pensacola last Tuesday out of concerns surrounding potential unsafe building conditions. Lighthouse, which uses the gym for its athletic events as well as physical education classes, didn’t learn it the city was closing it until shortly before action was taken at 5 p.m. that day.

In an empty Bennett C. Russell Stadium last fall, Ameer Rustom is throwing the javelin, putting in the work to prepare for a track season that, at the time, was still a few months away. Earlier that year, Rustom was at a low point in his athletic career, a torn ACL sidelined him for his senior season of football at Navarre and left his future in track and weightlifting hanging in the balance.

Let’s talk about odds for a moment. Navarre’s softball team had a few stacked against them in Tuesday night’s battle with rival Niceville. For starters, the Raiders came into the night on a four-game losing streak. And they trailed 5-0 after two innings against the Eagles, the same Eagles who have long been a thorn in their side, including at the end of last year when they bounced Navarre from the district tournament.
