With the ups and downs of the regular season in the rear-view mirror, area teams now gear up for the district tournament, harboring hopes of playing beyond the first week of May.
Baseball and softball teams from Navarre, Pace, Milton, Jay and Central are all in action this week, starting with opening round action Monday night.

Fitterer dominates in Double-A debut for Blue Wahoos
Evan Fitterer had a successful Double-A debut. He threw six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos defeated Montgomery 5-0.

Marshall leading way for Raider relay team that ‘hasn’t missed a beat’
Terence Marshall isn’t new to the 400 relay team gearing up for next Friday’s Region 1-4A meet at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
He’s been with the squad from the jump this season, but when two of the four runners on the relay transferred mid-season, it left a couple of voids that needed to be filled.

Two sports are better than one for Dwayne Clark Jr.
Dwayne Clark Jr. hadn’t even heard of lacrosse prior to his high school days at Navarre.
Now he’s set to play the sport in college, signing a national letter of intent with NCAA Division III Huntingdon, where he will also play football for the Hawks this fall.

Senior night ends with tough loss to state-ranked Dolphins
Emotions ran deep for the Navarre Raider softball team prior to its game against unbeaten Gulf Breeze last Thursday night at home.
It was senior night, after all, and following a pre-game ceremony filled with tears, hugs and smiles, the Raiders put in the work in hopes of coming away with a win over their rival.

‘It’s night and day’ for Raider baseball team
Cole Crocker sent the ball into the air in the opening inning of play Thursday night against Booker T. Washington. Ashton Sieg didn’t hesitate to take off for home from third base and slid across the plate for the first run of the night.
It was textbook baseball for the Raiders, who put another win in the books with a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats at home.

Edwards part of Florida Gators’ runner-up finish at nationals
Navarre alum Bri Edwards capped her second season as a college gymnast celebrating a runner-up finish at the NCAA championship meet.
Competing in Fort Worth, Texas, last week, the Florida Gators scored 198.2375 points, narrowly missing the mark to top Oklahoma for the title. The Sooners finished with a 198.3875 total to repeat as national champions.

She was watching her brother play the game one day and decided it was something she wanted to do as well.
