Navarre High School’s boys’ soccer team followed up an outstanding 2-1 upset win Jan. 30 at Tallahassee Chiles with an even better effort Feb. 2 against Niceville. Unfortunately, as well as the Raiders played, they lost to the Eagles by a 1-0 score. Ironically, the Raiders lost in almost the exact circumstances in which they won against Chiles. In both games, there was slightly less than four minutes remaining. The ball was knocked down inside the box and bounced around before a player knocked home the winning goal from close range.
Those pesky porpoises – also known as the Gulf Breeze Dolphins – didn’t get Navarre’s “Senior Night” memo, handing the host Raiders a 53-36 defeat in the last regular season basketball game.
Navarre High School has finished second or tied for second in the Florida High School Athletics Association girls’ weightlifting finals in four of the past five seasons. Last week, the Lady Raiders won their fifth straight sectional meet and qualified 11 lifters to try to win the school’s first team title Feb. 9 in Kissimmee.
Defensive stalwart Lydia Brunet erupted for 17 points to lead Navarre High School to a 66-58 girls’ basketball win in the Raiders’ final game of the regular season Thursday at Gulf Breeze.
PACE – Navarre exploded for 22 points in the third quarter and held on for a 46-41 upset win against Washington in the first round of the District 1-6A girls’ basketball tournament Monday.
The Navarre High School Student Government Association is asking fans to “black out” the Raiders home basketball game against cross-county rival Gulf Breeze tomorrow to support the American Heart Association.
Two Navarre players received red cards and were ejected from the Raiders’ District 1-4A championship game Friday against top-seeded Niceville. The Eagles held on for a 2-1 win at Navarre’s Bennett C. Russell Stadium, earning their ninth straight district crown in the process.
