A team of cyclists representing Bike and Build, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit, traveled through Navarre June 3 during their 80-day ride from Jacksonville, Fla., to Modesto, California.
In February, Kylie Shelley won the state weightlifting championship in the 119-pound weight division. However, she felt there was something missing. “It was a much better feeling in 2013, when we won the team championship,” Shelley said. “We stood on that platform together to accept our championship medals. We had worked hard together and it was only right that we celebrated together.”
Navarre High School football players and cheerleaders are accustomed to performing on grass, but they showed May 28 they can also make important plays on sand.
Bragging rights go to the defensive Maroon squad as they bested the White offensive players, 41-35, May 22 in the annual Maroon-White Navarre Raider Spring football game. Although defense officially won the day, in reality, the offensive prowess on both sides of the ball captured the spotlight.
For the first time, Pensacola was a site for the annual, nationwide observance of “Ride of Silence” to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured by motorists. The event was also designed to bring awareness to “Sharing the Road,” a cyclist-motorists awareness program.
Navarre High School football players will take the field at 7 p.m. Friday for the annual Maroon and White scrimmage game, which brings an end to the Raiders’ spring practice.
