One of the walls inside Garrett Bagley’s Navarre High School office is covered with newspaper clippings highlighting the accomplishments of his girls weightlifting team during the last four years.

As Pete Shinnick stood in front of a podium on national signing day Wednesday, his University of West Florida football team exactly seven months from the start of its historic first season, the head coach of the Argos talked about the differences in recruiting this year compared to a year ago when the program was just starting up.

When Taf Bentley took over as the head coach of Navarre’s boys basketball team, the program wasn’t exactly in the greatest shape.

The defending champion Raiders wanted nothing less than another team victory as they traveled to Kissimmee on Feb. 6 to compete in the state Girls’ Weightlifting tournament. If they could pull off a win, it would be their third state championship in the last four years. During the years they did not win the team trophy, they placed second.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock Thursday night and the reality of the curtain lowering on a tremendous season began to sink in, Navarre’s girls basketball team never stopped playing hard.

Navarre’s softball team is under new leadership. Kelly Hayes, a former Raider, is the new head coach and was pleased with how things played out the first time the team took the field in a game.

The Raiders crushed Fort Walton Beach 14-3 in five innings in a preseason game Wednesday.

Arguably, the 2015 Navarre baseball season was the most successful in school history. It included the program’s first 20- win season, the first district title since 2002 and a regional semi-final appearance.

While all of those accomplishments are impressive, second-year head coach Scott Murphy has moved on from the successes of 2015.

De’Naizha Elder danced around at the top of the 3-point line with a little more than two minutes to go in Navarre’s District 1-7A championship game against Niceville Friday night.

The Raiders easily won the Regional (also called the sectionals or state qualifying) meet at Navarre on Jan. 19. The Raiders scored 103 points in the meet. The next closest team was Pine Forest, scoring 26 points.
