Football players, cheerleaders cleaning up
Navarre High School football players and cheerleaders worked for six hours July 26 to clean up the town. Well, not really the town, but dozens and dozens of vehicles that rolled through the business center parking lot just west of Prado Street on Highway 98.

Should out of town residents pay more?
Review of the Gulf Breeze Community Center’s proposed budget started a city council discussion about the fees that residents and non-residents pay to participate in programs and use associated athletic facilities. However, Mayor Beverly Zimmern suggested that the issue was not going to be solved during the July 26 budget workshop and if changes were going to be proposed then a separate meeting should be scheduled.

Council moves closer to Tiger Point West Course rebuild
Tiger Point’s East Course is busy … really busy. According to Gulf Breeze City Manager Edwin “Buz” Eddy, more than 3,900 rounds of golf have been played on the course during the past month.

Lady Raider Weightlifting: The dynasty reloads
At 7:00 a.m., the Navarre High School weightlifting room was already full. At one end of the room, the weightlifting team was pushing themselves through an intense workout. The other half of the room was filled by athletes from other sports that were using weightlifting for conditioning. “We opened the summer training program to other sports programs this year,” Coach Garrett Bagley said. “We always had cheerleading, but this year volleyball and softball were added. In addition, we have a lot of freshmen working out this summer.”

‘Florida’s Playground’ to get muddy as Tough Mudder host
What do you get when you take a 12 mile run, add elevation, mud, about 20 obstacles and thousands of people? The infamous Tough Mudder challenge, which is set to come to Santa Rosa County March 7, 2015. The race will take place at the Ates Ranch in Milton.

Experienced Lady Raiders’ softball looks to improve
Back in 2012, not much was expected of the Lady Raiders’ softball team. The team had been decimated by graduation including four scholarship players. Coach Scott Murphy was forced to start three freshmen and the team surprised everyone, finishing the regular season second in the district.

Navarre area players shine at Olympic soccer camp
Four Navarre area soccer players joined about 1,000 other girls earlier this month to highlight their skills during the Olympic Development Program Region Three Camp at the University of Montevallo, south of Birmingham, Alabama. During the five-day event, players from 12 states competed against each year, while staff members from the U.S. National Team watching looking for potential prospects.

Navarre youths ace first beach volleyball season
The Navarre Beach Volleyball Club’s (NBVC) inaugural beach season has almost wrapped up for the season. Michelle Lee, the club’s new director, coached nearly 30 young women through practices at Juana’s Pagodas and tournaments from Mobile to Panama City.

Council looks to fast track tennis court repairs
The Gulf Breeze City Council voted July 7 to hire an engineering firm to design construction plans for repair of the city’s tennis courts at Shoreline Park that were covered by floodwater for about a week after the epic April 29 rain storm.

Council meets July 21 to discuss Tiger Point renovations
The Gulf Breeze City Council will meet at 5 p.m., July 21 to review proposed improvements to the Tiger Point Golf Clubhouse and Pro Shop. Council finalized plans for the workshop July 7.
