Experienced Lady Raiders’ softball looks to improve
Back in 2012, not much was expected of the Lady Raiders’ softball team. The team had been decimated by graduation including four scholarship players. Coach Scott Murphy was forced to start three freshmen and the team surprised everyone, finishing the regular season second in the district.

Navarre area players shine at Olympic soccer camp
Four Navarre area soccer players joined about 1,000 other girls earlier this month to highlight their skills during the Olympic Development Program Region Three Camp at the University of Montevallo, south of Birmingham, Alabama. During the five-day event, players from 12 states competed against each year, while staff members from the U.S. National Team watching looking for potential prospects.

Navarre youths ace first beach volleyball season
The Navarre Beach Volleyball Club’s (NBVC) inaugural beach season has almost wrapped up for the season. Michelle Lee, the club’s new director, coached nearly 30 young women through practices at Juana’s Pagodas and tournaments from Mobile to Panama City.

Council looks to fast track tennis court repairs
The Gulf Breeze City Council voted July 7 to hire an engineering firm to design construction plans for repair of the city’s tennis courts at Shoreline Park that were covered by floodwater for about a week after the epic April 29 rain storm.

Council meets July 21 to discuss Tiger Point renovations
The Gulf Breeze City Council will meet at 5 p.m., July 21 to review proposed improvements to the Tiger Point Golf Clubhouse and Pro Shop. Council finalized plans for the workshop July 7.

Raiders seek another great soccer season
For two straight years, the Navarre Raiders boys’ soccer team advanced to the regional playoffs before being eliminated by a late goal. This season’s seniors think that they have the right stuff to make it to the playoffs again and this time, producing a different result.

Local rider competes in World Championship
A 14-year-old Holley-Navarre Middle School student is competing in the Palomino World Championship for horseback riding in Tunica, Mississippi near Memphis, Tennessee. K-Lani Rae Vickery of Navarre has competed in several horse shows and now has advanced to the World Championship.

Tennis pro and national champ to lead HBTS tennis program
Andreea Brooks was looking for a part-time job when her husband saw that the previous tennis pro for Holley by the Sea was no longer employed at the recreation facility. Brooks has lived in HBTS for seven years and has not been a part of the tennis program even though she was a national tennis champion for Romania when she was only 14-years old. She was also the No. 1 player in singles at the University of West Florida three years in a row. Later, Brooks became an assistant tennis coach at UWF and was also an assistant pro at Pensacort in Pensacola.

Lady Raiders’ soccer seniors looking forward to another great season
The 2013 Navarre High School girls’ soccer season was special. The team advanced to the regional semifinals before losing by a single goal. Despite the disappointing loss, the team made history. The Raiders won matches over Gulf Breeze and Niceville for the first time ever. One of the main reasons for their success last year was the 11 seniors on the team. Coach Rob Simon had so many seniors on the team, he was able to substitute one senior for another.

Raiders get ready for ‘Midnight Madness’
Navarre High School football players start practice Monday, Aug. 4, but they can’t get back into full gear until the sixth day of practice. So, the coaching staff, Navarre Raider Quarterback Club and Navarre Youth Sports Association (NYSA) are launching the first-ever “Midnight Madness.”
