So here in Pensacola on a chilly and windy evening at the Mark Conti Baseball Complex at West Florida, the Raider senior was glad to be back on the mound.

Once the tears dry and the sting of defeat subsides, Navarre’s girls basketball team will come to appreciate all that it accomplished during an historic season.

It is a season that ends in the Elite Eight, a 69-63 loss to 2020 state runner-up Wekiva  punctuating it. But the Raiders never took their foot off the gas pedal from an effort standpoint in in their attempt to pull off a monumental upset.

Back on the field in a meaningful game for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic cut the 2020 season short in March, Navarre’s boys lacrosse team embraced the moment.

Although the outcome of its opener against Pensacola Catholic didn’t go the way the Raiders hoped it would, there were positives to be found buried underneath the surface of a 14-1 loss Thursday night.

Losing 15-0 isn’t ideal, but there is more to the story for Navarre’s girls lacrosse season, which began its season Wednesday night with a shutout road loss to Pensacola.

The Raiders were more active on the field against the Tigers, battling for possession and playing tough defensively as they made the effort to pull off an upset against one of the area’s more established programs on a chilly night in mid-February.

The Raiders rolled in their Sweet 16 matchup against Buchholz Wednesday night in Gainesville, winning 45-27 and punching their ticket to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

Navarre’s boys weightlifting team won its first meet of the season last week, knocking off rival Niceville in a dual meet last Tuesday at home.

The Raiders dominated the Eagles 70-18 and have lost just twice over the last three years.

Navarre’s softball team has been able to lean on veteran talent to pave the way in the past, but this year’s edition of the Raiders is a younger one
featuring just one senior.

Rachel Hester is the lone fourth-year player and is just glad to be back on the field after the COVID-19 pandemic cut the 2020 campaign short. The Raiders finished 4-5.

Huntingdon’s football team is picked to finish in a tie for first in the USA South West Division. The Hawks are tied with Brevard and Maryville at the top.

Four former Navarre Raiders are on the Huntingdon roster in Darrell Hixon, Garrett Schluter, Marc Struck and Tyler England.

Ian Lockwood has been gone for 10 years, but the former Navarre Raider’s legacy remains alive and well.

I personally didn’t know Ian. I wasn’t working here when he was going through his difficult but brave battle with brain cancer.
