Bailey Huston lost his grip on the bar as he prepared to lift it during Navarre’s season opening weightlifting meet last Monday at Pace.

Rather than get discouraged, Huston settled in for a second attempt. He even added more weight to the bar prior to it.

That “mental Goliath” Navarre first-year boys soccer coach James Baccarini refers to as Niceville wasn’t slayed on a rainy and chilly Friday night at the Ashton Brosnaham Complex in Pensacola.

Navarre had an opportunity to do it. It struck first against the Eagles in a District 1-6A semifinal but couldn’t hold on as it went on to fall 2-1 and see its 2020-21 season come to an end.

The names change and the accomplishments vary but what has remained consistent through it all is a run of success that is seemingly unbreakable.

Navarre’s girls weightlifting team is headed to state this weekend. Again. Those words have become as much of a guarantee as death and taxes.

Ariel Michel is headed to the girls state weightlifting meet for the first time. She wasn’t sure if the moment would ever happen.

Michel lifted as a freshman and again as a junior. But her senior season has been one to remember, winning district and regional titles in the 139-pound weight class, an effort that has helped put Navarre on the brink of a state championship for the sixth time in program history.

When Abby Fogg took over as the Navarre girls basketball coach four years ago, the program was in shambles. 

Fast forward to Friday night in Milton. A 33-18 victory over the Panthers punctuates a district championship for the first time since 2016.

Navarre’s boys soccer team returns to the field tonight for the first time in nearly a month.

The Raiders take on Niceville in a District 1-6A semifinal at the Ashton Brosnaham Complex in Pensacola. Game time is 5 p.m.

Right time. Right place.

That is exactly where Cami Acevedo found herself Thursday night in Navarre’s District 1-6A semifinal against Pace at the Twin Oaks Soccer Complex.

The University of West Florida football team added 11 freshmen to its roster on national signing day Wednesday.

Seven of the recruits the reigning NCAA Division II national champions picked up are from Florida. The other four are from Alabama.

Navarre’s girls soccer team is still the reigning district champion.

The Raiders are hoping to keep that title this season as they get set to begin District 1-6A play tonight in a semifinal matchup against Pace. Game time is 5 p.m. at Twin Oaks in Niceville.

Olivia Warren pulled up from 3-point range in the final minute of the third quarter, swishing home her shot to extend the Navarre lead to 14.

It was a clutch shot in a big moment and it helped the Raiders take down Crestview 50-40 and put the program on the edge of district glory for the first time in five years.
