Six straight losses have left Navarre’s boys soccer team in a tough spot at the midway point of the season.

Certainly the Raiders would like to be in a better position, but head coach James Baccarini knows a turnaround is within reach with the right mindset and continued improvement.

He’s not lying. England was on another level Thursday night as Navarre battled Crestview in a matchup of state-ranked girls basketball teams.

Navarre’s boys basketball team spent part of its Saturday watching film from the night before. A 12-point loss to Milton on Friday left the Raiders in need of a bounce-back win.

That film session paid off. Navarre bounced back against Catholic Saturday night with a 63-32 win that was fueled by its best defensive performance of the season.

Kyle Chambers faked the handoff and took off running, eluding a few defenders and barreling over another before finally being brought to the ground after a gain of just over 20 yards in Friday’s Pensacola Sports All-Game.

That kind of run wasn’t anything new for Chambers. The Navarre quarterback made those moves all the time before suffering a collarbone injury in late October that ended his senior season.

Sunday marked a double return for Navarre’s own Michael Carter.

He returned to the field for the first time in four weeks and also played in his home state for the first time in his NFL career.

Two of the best teams in the state square off tonight in girls basketball as Navarre takes on Crestview.

The Raiders are ranked sixth in the latest MaxPreps rankings. The Bulldogs are ninth.
