Navarre is still holding down a spot in the top eight of the Region 1-6A volleyball rankings.

The Raiders are one of three area teams to be ranked in the region in 6A.

Until last Tuesday, Navarre had never competed in a swim meet at the Gospel Project pool in Milton. In fact, head coach Mary Moorer admitted she didn’t know it existed.

But the pool was a little different than normal, especially with no blocks to dive off for the start of a race. The depth at the starting area was 10 feet and it dipped to 4 feet at the other end of the pool.

Most football players love the spotlight. As a long snapper at Huntingdon, Garrett Schluter would prefer that as few people know him as possible.

But don’t get him wrong. The former Navarre Raider enjoys playing the position at the college level.

Michael Carter led the New York Jets in rushing for the second consecutive week.

The former Navarre Raider kept that streak going Sunday afternoon against the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High.

The one thing Navarre hasn’t done this season is start fast offensively against an opponent.

That changed on Friday as the Raiders built a two-touchdown lead in the first quarter and went on to defeat Leon 24-14 on a fall-like September evening at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee.

Navarre head volleyball coach Ryan Davenport stood near his team’s bench and threw his hands up at one point late in last Tuesday’s match against Milton.

It was just one of those nights where enough didn’t go right as the Raiders lost to the rival Panthers for the second time this season.

Keep the momentum rolling.

That’s the goal of Navarre’s football team when it hits the road to take on Leon Friday night in a 7 p.m. EST game at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee.

The first set of RPI rankings have been released by the FHSAA and Navarre finds itself ranked among the top eight.

The top eight teams in the final set of rankings will make the playoffs, with district champions assured of a first-round home game.
