There’s something about Niceville that brings out a little extra in Navarre’s girls weightlifting team.

Sure, Navarre still owns the district, winning 16 consecutive titles, but if there is a team that poses the biggest threat to the Raiders’ dominant run, it’s the Eagles.

De’Marco Artis sat alone in the end zone. Matthew Gotel walked off the field in tears. 

Some players had their hands on their hips. Some were hunched over. All of them had looks of disbelief and disappointment on their faces.

Another season is on the horizon for the Raider boys basketball team and Posey is hoping for a much better outcome than a year ago when it dropped its final five games and finished 8-10.

Central School’s Girls Volleyball Team, the Lady Jags, left Friday for their first game of the Final Four for the state 1As. They are 1A regional champions. They will play Pierson at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pierson Middle/High School in Pierson, Florida. If they win that, they go to Fort Myers Wednesday to play the finals Thursday.

Their record is currently 17-10 and they are ranked #3 for 1A in the state.

Few words are needed to hype up the looming Gulf South Conference showdown between the University of West Florida and Valdosta State Saturday afternoon at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

The meaning of this game goes beyond that. The numbers say it all. And the stakes for this battle between two of the premier teams in NCAA Division II football speak for themselves.
