Holley-Navarre Fire District recently promoted five firefighters to new positions.
At the Monday, Aug. 24, meeting of the fire commissioners, Nathan Pfrimmer, Brian Jackson, Austin Schlarb, Justin Kiley and Josh Hurley were all promoted. Pfrimmer is now a captain, while the other four now carry the rank of engineer.
Sheriff’s Office returns $1 million for county budget
The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has agreed to return an additional $1 million to offset its increase in the upcoming fiscal year budget, County Administrator Brad Baker told Santa Rosa County Commissioners at a committee meeting Aug. 25.
The money would go into fund balance for commissioners to allocate at a later date, Baker said.
Plans submitted for Zaxby’s in Navarre
Navarre residents may soon have a new option for where they buy their chicken tenders.
A developer has submitted plans to Santa Rosa County Development Services to bring a Zaxby’s restaurant to the south side of Highway 98, just west of Costa Verde Court. Plans were submitted Aug. 31.

Home Depot may be coming to the Tiger Point area.
This summer, surveyors looked at a 16-acre parcel along Magnolia Manor Drive, just north of Highway 98.

Two arrested after alleged animal cruelty caught on camera
Two people have been arrested after security video allegedly showed dogs being struck and forcibly pushed underneath a fence at a Midway property.
Charolette Ann Dellinger, 57, and David Kella Neely, 57, each face a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge. Both are involved in dog breeding.
Contractor Jesse LaCoste sentenced to 30 years, ordered to pay $2.1 million in restitution
Jesse LaCoste, a Northwest Florida contractor convicted of racketeering and organized fraud, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a scheme that affected dozens of homeowners.
LaCoste was sentenced Aug. 31 in connection with a fraud scheme involving more than $2 million and victims in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties. The scheme occurred from 2018 to 2022.
