The Santa Rosa County Commission unanimously approved the appointment of Sam Parker and James Calkins as chairman and vice chairman at its meeting Monday, Nov. 6.

Commissioner Colten Wright, the outgoing chairman, resumed the tradition of passing the gavel to the vice chairman; a year ago, Parker prevented Calkins – then the vice chairman – from his turn as chairman by nominating Wright for the job.

ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, a Florida based, family-owned wine and spirits retailer, will open a brand-new location in Navarre on Thursday, November 9, and celebrate the occasion with a big giveaway. The store will be located at 8315 Mikajack Avenue in Navarre.

Santa Rosa County District Schools has announced its comprehensive building projects, including the construction of the brand-new Southend High School, set to open its doors to students in August 2026. Furthermore, plans for a high school in the north portion of the county are in the pipeline.

This month, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin work on a $3.1 million project to mill and resurface State Road 87 S, from Hickory Hammock Road (County Road 184) to Technology Ave. in Milton.

One such initiative took them to the McKinley Climatic Laboratory at Eglin Air Force base in Florida, where they conducted intensive cold weather training, pushing the limits of their abilities and equipment.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced today that federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans are available in Florida and most private nonprofit organizations with economic losses due to the drought conditions that began on Oct. 3, 2023.

Attorney General Ashley Moody is taking legal action against a Gulf Coast pool company and its owner for taking large upfront payments from consumers and leaving jobs incomplete. According to an investigation by the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, Cox Pools of the Gulf Coast, LLC, and its owner, Hillary Bello, accepted payments from at least 27 consumers in exchange for pool construction services, then failed to perform the services as promised—leaving consumers with unfi nished pools and holes in backyards.

That’s how Navarre businessman and developer Robert “Bob” Benaquis describes himself. And what’s his vision? A place in Navarre for residents to shop, dine and play all within a walkable space. Benaquis hopes the creation of a town center can keep locals from going to places like Pensacola or Destin, where there are more amenities.
