Owners of five Santa Rosa properties signed up to participate in Gulf Power’s site certification program by the May 3 deadline imposed by the utility. The goal of the new program, which officially kicked off in April, is to help recruit large industry to the area by certifying there are project-ready sites available.

“It’s ridiculous,” said Holley resident Linda Chepult, regarding the four-laning of SR 87, the main north-south corridor for residents in the south end of the county. Chepult has lived near the traffic artery since 2010, the same year the second phase of the road-widening project began. The $15 million phase, which included bridge construction over Dean Creek, is expected to be complete by mid-summer.

The horrific crash that snarled Highway 98 traffic for several hours near the Hurlburt Field entrance had a toll much greater than the damage to the seven vehicles involved. The crash also claimed the lives of a Bradenton couple who were deeply active within the Manatee County community.

Rick Scott is reverting back to his old talking points criticizing the federal health law, after he told a Pensacola radio station Wednesday the law is a “disaster.” His comments come a month after the state Legislative session ended without expanding Medicaid — a move Scott pushed for.
