A busy intersection along U.S. 98 and Navarre Park is set to get a pedestrian overpass earlier than leaders had expected. The proposed $2.48 million walkover could be constructed on U.S. 98 near the Navarre Beach bridge in 2018.

Future of courthouse remains unsettled
Santa Rosa County’s courthouse was deemed unsafe in 1914. It wasn’t until 13 years later that the current courthouse was built. In what seems to be history repeating itself, replacement of the 86-year-old county courthouse has again been delayed over a decade.
County makes exception for dirt pit
Commissioners will allow developer James A. “Jim” Young, Jr. to construct a borrow pit on property located within the county’s expanded well field protection area. The commission had adopted an ordinance on Mar. 7 expanding the area to provide further protection of the local water supply, including a ban on resource extraction, such as dirt removal.

Candles likely cause in Blackjack Circle blaze
A woman sustained minor injuries just after 11 p.m. Friday night after her residence at 7505 Blackjack Circle caught fire from suspected unattended candles. Marva Smith, owner of the mobile home off of East Bay Boulevard, was home with her two pets when the blaze started.
