Branch Properties announces opening of Wynnehaven Plaza

Branch Properties, the Atlanta-based real estate investment and development firm overseeing several developments in the Navarre area, has announced that Wynnehaven Plaza is now officially open for business. The plaza is a 57,750 square foot shopping center. It is anchored by a 48,387 square foot Publix supermarket, which held its grand opening March 8. The property is 100% pre-leased as of earlier this year.

Gulf Breeze begins placing utilities underground

Within the next year, motorists making their way down U.S. Highway 98 in Gulf Breeze will no longer see powerlines strung above the roadway. The City of Gulf Breeze is taking on the task of placing a portion of U.S. 98’s powerlines underground through a project years in the making. The Utility Underground Conversion Project, which was laid out in the 2018 community redevelopment plan, began to take off in 2021 when funding and planning began to come to fruition. The scope of the project is to convert 4,200 linear feet of above ground wire to underground and install LED lighting fixtures. The project will cover 1.1 miles and is expected to be complete in 2024.

Arrest made in fatal Navarre shooting

An arrest has been made in the fatal weekend shooting that took place at the Cayo Grande apartment complex in Navarre. Santa Rosa County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting at the 7700 block of Navarre Parkway at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. Deputies discovered the body of a dead male who had been shot.

Preserve Navarre launches outreach campaign

Residents across Navarre may be hearing a knock on the door very soon. Preserve Navarre is launching an informational, door-to-door outreach campaign to let people know about what incorporation could bring. Preserve Navarre is a nonprofit organization devoted to incorporating Navarre, something which has been tried twice before (2006 and 2014) but to no avail. The organization has been active since the start of 2021.

Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge hosts spring break camp

While students and teachers had a week off from school during spring break, the folks at Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge were hard at work hosting a spring break camp for kids ages 8 to 13. Despite hosting camps before, this was the first time Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge had hosted one during spring break. The purpose of the camps at Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge are to help educate youth on all things animalia, from biology to ecology to the dangers they face from humans and other animals.

Panel backs lowering age to buy guns

Tallahassee — With backing from Speaker Paul Renner, a House panel last week approved a bill that would lower the minimum age to buy rifles and other long guns in Florida from 21 to 18. The bill (HB 1543) would reverse part of a 2018 law that set the minimum age at 21 after a gunman killed 17 students and faculty members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Nikolas Cruz, then 19, used a semi-automatic rifle to carry out the attack.
