Tunes by the Dunes likely ending after spring series

A longtime Navarre Beach concert series is facing an unlikely future. During the Tourist Development Council’s recent budget workshop, the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce did not submit a sponsorship request for the Tunes by the Dunes concert series for the upcoming fiscal year.

FPL bills to dip slightly in May

The state Public Service Commission has approved a plan that will provide a break to Florida Power & Light customers because of lower-than-expected natural gas prices. The plan, which the commission unanimously supported without discussion, will reduce customers’ monthly bills starting in May — and partially offset increases that took effect in April.

Activist group, Moms for Liberty, opens Santa Rosa chapter

Parental rights in education have become a massive issue politically, not just in Florida, but across the country. One group is helping lead that charge. Moms for Liberty, a nonprofit advocacy group based in Melbourne, Florida, has campaigned against COVID-19 restrictions in schools, school curriculums that mention critical race theory or gender ideology and some chapters have campaigned to remove certain books that address gender or sexuality from school libraries.

Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Center breaks ground on expansion

Ground recently broke on a new expansion to Navarre Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Center.  According to Cathy Holmes, the founder of NBSTCC, the expansion will help continue the center’s mission of educating the public about sea turtle conservation, as well as helping facilitate the work done by the NBSTCC Sea Turtle Rescue Team.

DeSantis signs concealed weapons bill

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed a measure that will allow Floridians to carry guns without concealed-weapons licenses. The Republican-controlled Senate gave final approval to the measure (HB 543) on Thursday, about a week after the House passed it.
