Catalytic converter theft bill heading to DeSantis

The House on Wednesday gave final approval to a bill aimed at curbing thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles. The House voted 105-2 to pass the bill (SB 306), which the Senate approved unanimously early this month.

Prescribed Burn Scheduled for the Naval Live Oaks Area

Gulf Islands National Seashore plans to conduct prescribed burns within the Naval Live Oaks Area near Gulf Breeze April 20 through 22. The planned burns are scheduled to take place around 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. but will only occur if specific conditions are met. The park will review the conditions on the morning of each potential burn day to determine if the burn will take place.

David’s Bridal files for bankruptcy

David’s Bridal and some of its subsidiaries have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The brand’s nearly 300 physical stores and online platforms will reportedly remain open. The news comes on the heels of the company’s announcement that they would layoff around 9,000 workers nationwide this year, which is an 80% reduction in David’s Bridal’s workforce.

Navarre Beach Fire Rescue donates truck to volunteer dept in Alabama

Navarre Beach Fire Rescue District is no stranger to assisting other fire departments or districts when they are in need. In December, Navarre Beach Fire gave Munson Volunteer Fire Department some of their thermal imaging equipment and NBFRD always assists Holley Navarre Fire District and Midway Fire District on calls. On Monday, April 17, Navarre Beach Fire was able to help an out-of-state volunteer fire department get a vehicle they could have never afforded on their own.

Home at last: Korean War vet buried in Barrancas after 73 years missing

Military families are no stranger to homecomings but for one family in Northwest Florida, they had a homecoming 73 years in the making. On April 4, one family finally got the opportunity to say hello and goodbye to a Korean War veteran who had been missing since 1950. Private First Class Ithiel Whatley, of Pensacola, had been reported missing July 12, 1950, in the vicinity of Choci’won in present day South Korea. He was 19 at the time.
