Free hunter safety course offered in Navarre
Young adults and others looking to join the hunting community have an opportunity to learn all about hunting close by in the coming weeks. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will be offering a free hunter safety course in Navarre.

An electrifying way to study fish
Not everyone can step up to the bow of a boat, lean against the railing, step on a pedal and start netting fish as they float up to the surface. Although it is illegal and dangerous for anglers to fish with electricity, biologists use electrofishing boats to temporarily stun and collect fish for scientific analyses and to help manage the fishery. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) fishery biologists have special training to operate this equipment safely.

Navarre students among 21 nursing students pinned
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Northwest Florida State College held a pinning ceremony August 2 to recognize the 21 students – all of them current Registered Nurses – who completed the baccalaureate program in nursing. Navarre’s Sherrie Koenigseder and Deneb Wright were among those honored.

Daughter Fights For Mom’s Release
During a child custody modification hearing July 19, Santa Rosa County Circuit Court Judge Marci L. Goodman had Arety Kapetanis, a Santa Rosa County resident who owns a well-known adult entertainment establishment in Pensacola, arrested for contempt of court. Kapetanis resisted the arrested and was subsequently booked into Santa Rosa County Jail on misdemeanor charges of contempt and resisting arrest without violence. Ultimately she was jailed for 24 days before being release Aug. 12.

Effort to Unite Beach Groups
With a little nudge from the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council (TDC), three marine groups based in Navarre Beach Park are making an effort to unite and set goals to jointly pursue. The new coalition is planning to reach out to other beach stakeholders and start meeting monthly as a subcommittee of the TDC’s south end committee.
