National Lost Dog Awareness Day
A network of nonprofit organizations operating in Florida and eight other states celebrated April 23 the first National Lost Dog Awareness to remind residents that not all stray dogs are homeless. The holiday was created by Susan Taney and Kathy Pobloskie – directors of Lost Dog Illinois and Lost Dogs of Wisconsin.

Gov. Scott seeks more fishing days in federal waters
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved April 16 a 52-day recreational red snapper season in state waters beginning May 24. The next day, Gov. Rick Scott sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Commerce urging the agency to provide additional fishing opportunities in federal waters.

Northwest Florida deer hunting regulations changing
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) met near Tallahassee April 17 and voted to change deer hunting regulations in northwest Florida. One hunting organization in the region provided input about the proposed changes and was pleased with the commission’s final decision.
