Man faces 50 years for sex crimes
A Santa Rosa County man was convicted July 10 of having sex with several teenage girls after giving them alcohol to get them drunk during a weekend camping trip to Chumuckla in February 2013.

Former principal files gender discrimination lawsuit

Navarre advocates make case for RESTORE
Although Navarre is the largest community in Santa Rosa County, it is not incorporated like Milton, Gulf Breeze or Jay. Those municipalities appeared before the local RESTORE council Monday, seeking project funding from monies expected from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Additionally, representatives from Navarre area organizations attended too to make their pitch for funding.

Weather, birds slow tar mat removal
Nesting shorebirds and uncooperative weather have slowed the removal of a tar mat that was found June 21 not far from shore in the Fort Pickens Area of Gulf Islands National Seashore. U.S. Coast Guard Public Information Officer Natalie Murphy said removal efforts were temporarily suspended June 27 and have not yet resumed.

Blue Angels sponsor Navy recruits
Members of the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels attended the commissioning ceremony of Navy Recruit Division 940 – the squadron’s first sponsored division of Navy recruits – June 30 at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, Ill. The Recruit Division Sponsorship Program allows Navy commands to interact with recruits during training and take part in the “Sailorization” process of turning a person into a well-rounded member of the U.S. Navy – making civilians Sailors.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is actively seeking volunteers in Santa Rosa County to drive local cancer patients to and from lifesaving treatments. ACS volunteers provided more than 3,100 cancer patients in Florida with rides in 2013.
