Gulf Breeze will issue bonds for Holley-Navarre Water
The Gulf Breeze City Council voted Monday to approve the issuance of approximately $7 million in Capital Trust Agency revenue bonds to assist in financing a loan program for the Holley-Navarre Water System.

Gulf Breeze forms Stormwater Task Force
To begin to address its stormwater drainage problem, the City of Gulf Breeze will form a Stormwater Task Force of experts to study the drainage in the area and identify long-term solutions.

Signs will mark “Florida’s Playground” Trail
Last year the Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council decided to rebrand the county as “Florida’s Playground.” The TDC is also planning a trail to highlight a dozen area attractions, including Navarre Beach Marine Park, Gulf Islands National Seashore, Historic downtown Milton, Gulf Breeze Zoo and other hot spots.

Woman sentenced for mortgage fraud scheme
A California woman was sentenced May 14 in Pensacola to seven years in prison and ordered to pay more than $10 million in restitution for charges stemming from a mortgage fraud scheme, which included homes in Navarre, Santa Rosa Beach and Panama City.

Milton man sentenced for threatening school
A Milton was sentenced May 14 to three years in prison and two years probation on a charge of aggravated stalking stemming from threats he made against a school in Colorado the same day a gunman opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.

Local man arrested for aggravated assault
Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home on Spruce Street in the Midway area May 14 after a 911 caller said a resident had fired a gun inside the dwelling and had threatened to shoot her.

Commission addresses lack of school resource officers
Santa Rosa County Sheriff Wendell Hall and Santa Rosa County Schools Superintendent Tim Wyrosdick attended Monday’s commission committee meeting, asking commissioners to authorize two grant applications, including one they hope to use to put school resource officers back in public elementary and middle schools. Commissioners are set to approve those and address other matters at their regular meeting today.
