Keeping your cool

Florida is known as the Sunshine State, but sometimes Floridians can get a little too much sun. Recently, Miami-Dade County declared a “heat season” similar to hurricane season to raise awareness of the dangers that heat can present to the health and well being of Floridians. Although northwest Florida is about as far from Miami-Dade as you can get without leaving the state, extreme heat still presents dangers along the Emerald Coast.

On Thursday, June 1, county officials, lawyers, judges and many others attended the dedication of the law library in honor of former judges Colie Nichols Jr. and Woodrow Melvin. Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday begins May 27

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) encourages Floridians to purchase disaster preparedness items during Florida’s two 14-day Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays beginning May 27 through June 9 and Aug. 26 through Sept. 8. House Bill 7063, the largest tax relief plan in Florida’s history, was signed into law by Governor DeSantis extending the Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday from a single 14-day holiday to two separate 14-day holidays.
