More military activity through May 9
Local residents often see military aircraft along the Emerald Coast, but for the next 10 days, they may see some that don’t look too familiar. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) is hosting Emerald Warrior, an annual joint training exercise that started April 28 and runs through May 9.

Navarre Park tests for moderate levels of bacteria
Water samples tested April 14 from Navarre Park contained moderate levels of the bacteria Enterococci, or fecal strep, according to data from the Florida Healthy Beaches Program. The levels, however, were not high enough to issue a water advisory for Navarre Park.

The State Attorney’s Office announced last Thursday that Pensacola Police officer Chad Willhite had been cleared for the fatal Christmas Eve shooting of William “Cody” Goodman of Gulf Breeze.

County closes recycling drop-off sites
Santa Rosa County commissioners voted April 25 to close the county’s 21 recycling drop-off sites until further notice due to health and safety risks from the overwhelming volume of recycling material not collected or processed by the county’s contractor, West Florida Recycling.
