National Guard lends help in wake of flood
Fla. Governor Rick Scott April 30 declared a State of Emergency in 26 northwest Florida counties and that cleared the way for National Guard personnel to assist residents stranded by floodwaters.

Santa Rosa jail flooded with Escambia inmates after deadly post-flood explosion
Around 600 inmates were inside the Escambia County jail when an April 30 explosion crippled the building, killing two inmates and requiring the hospitalization of 184 people, including one correctional officer who was paralyzed in the incident. Some inmates reported smelling natural gas prior to the 11 p.m. blast. More than 200 female inmates were transferred to Santa Rosa County jail afterward.

A jury in Santa Rosa County deliberated for about an hour May 1 before finding 44-year-old Lee Calvin Pardue of Pensacola guilty on 33 counts of child-sex related offenses.
