Local school district is ‘Fit-Friendly’
The Santa Rosa County School District was recognized by the American Heart Association as a Fit-Friendly worksite. The district received Gold Level recognition, which is awarded to work sites that offer employees physical activity support, promote a wellness culture and implement physical and nutritional activities.

More than a dozen dogs visited Navarre June 7 to try and find a new home. The “Pawsome Adoption Event” featured several local animal rescue organizations all working to find less fortunate dogs a new home.

Sunset hike to celebrate National Trails Day
In celebration of the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day, Gulf Islands National Seashore hosted a sunset hike at Fort Pickens June 7. Around 30 hikers enjoyed a leisurely 2.5-mile walk along the Florida National Scenic Trail, a path of more than 1,000 miles which starts in Big Cypress Swamp and ends at Fort Pickens.

Families rejoice, about 100 Airmen return
Hundreds of friends and family members watched the sky Friday at Hurlburt Field waiting for a plane to land that would deliver about 100 Airmen home from Afghanistan and the Middle East.
