Hurlburt Field, Fla. — The Department of Defense named the 801st Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron the 2015 winner of the Phoenix Award for Maintenance Excellence, during this year’s secretary of defense awards ceremony held Dec. 8.

Most remember vividly the days when Mom and Dad wouldn’t allow dessert before vegetables had been eaten. Still today, parents do their best to convince kids that plants are healthy. A drug deal nearly turned deadly Friday night, Dec. 11.  Santa Rosa deputies say that Tyjuwan Jahdeil Vades Jenkins, a 17-year-old Navarre male, agreed to meet another subject at the Tom Thumb located at Laredo Street and Highway 87 south to buy marijuana.  At some point during their meeting, Jenkins pointed a gun at the other male and shot him in the leg. 

Just after 7 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 deputies responded to a home invasion call on Joyce Phillips Lane in the town of Jay.  According to Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Rich Aloy, the suspect broke into the home through the front door and the resident shot the suspect. 

During the Dec. 8 budget meeting of the Holley-Navarre Water System (HNWS) Board, one thing caught the board members by complete surprise: the benefits package purchased for the employees of the water department, specifically health insurance.

According to a release issued by the State Attorney Bill Eddins, Normond L. Hale was convicted by a Santa Rosa jury on Dec. 10, 2015 on two counts of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and for shooting within a building.
