The Florida Department of Transportation is changing the speed limit on a small stretch of State Road 87 beginning at U.S. Highway 98 to just north of Montalban Street in Navarre.  The change will be from the current 45 mph to 40 mph beginning Jan. 7.

Every four hours members the Navarre Beach Fire Department patrolled the beach from the military property westward to Opal Beach in hope of recovering the body of swimmer Christopher Beal who went missing on Tuesday, Dec. 29.  Danny Fureigh of NBFD says that it was the roughest and highest surf Navarre Beach has had in a while when Beal was lost.
