At approximately 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, Underwood Food Mart on Highway 87 South, former site of Tom Thumb, was robbed at knifepoint by an unknown assailant. According to a release issued by the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, the subject fled in a gray Lexus north on Highway 87 and east on I-10. The car was found abandoned by the subject in Okaloosa County. The subject was apprehended and is being questioned.
A release issued by the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office says they responded to two unrelated shootings on Nov. 8 in Milton. The first shooting occurred on Pooley Street where a black male received a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper thigh area of his leg from two unknown males. Deputies initially responded to a Limit Street address where the victim was located. After EMS transported the victim, deputies spoke with witnesses and learned that the shooting took place on Pooley Street. According to the incident report, when the deputy arrived at the Pooley Street scene, the front door to the house was wide open. He performed a protective sweep of the residence without results.
The cost of substitute teachers in the Santa Rosa County school system will rise an estimated 8.5 percent this year to $1.8 million, probably the largest annual increase ever, but officials say that could be a bargain.
San Diego (AP) — SeaWorld will end orca shows at its San Diego park after visitors at the tourist attraction made it clear they prefer seeing killer whales act naturally rather than doing tricks, the company’s top executive said Monday.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 10 a.m. on Nov. 2, the Florida Highway Patrol requested the assistance of the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a stolen vehicle. Troopers advised the vehicle was southbound on Highway 87 after running from a trooper during a traffic stop. During the incident, the vehicle came to a stop on Nichols Lake Road in Milton and the suspect ran from the trooper on foot.
