Current Alzheimer’s disease research and therapy
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, AD alone composes “an estimated 60 to 80 percent of [dementia] cases.” Furthermore, according to research done by scientists from the Rush Institute for Healthy Aging, located in Chicago, Ill., nearly five million Americans were living with this destructive disease in 2013. In the same paper by Rush Institute researchers, it was projected that by the year 2050 the number of individuals with Alzheimer’s would reach 14 million in the United States.

Remembering Black Hawk 11 Committee
This elusive group is elusive for a reason. They are very humble and do not want any recognition. “Our primary focus is to have the 11 families here for a remembrance ceremony – we do not want any credit,” said one of the members. After a lot of arm twisting, we were able to get the names of those behind the ceremony and the housing and feeding for the more than 150 family members that will be in Navarre this week. They are, Tammy Jones, Jerry Foster, Donna Sue Harvell, Adam Teichner, and Patrick Fitzgerald.

11 flags memorialize the fallen
Six weeks ago, Gail Stangeland heard on the radio that the families of the 11 service members who perished in the Black Hawk crash on March 10, 2015, were coming to Navarre for a remembrance ceremony. “I was passing by the makeshift memorial on the Navarre Causeway and it really bothered me,” Stangeland recounted. “I knew the wives would be here and I wanted something for them.”
