According to an announcement made by Santa Rosa County, recycling services will be at a standstill for at least four to six months, beginning Jan. 4.  While the decision has left residents frustrated, the county says there was no other cost-effective option at this point.

Keanu Medina of Navarre was sentenced to 10.38 years in a Florida Department of Corrections prison facility.  According to information provided by State Attorney Bill Eddins’ office, the first four years are a minimum-mandatory sentence.  Following his release from prison, Medina was ordered to serve four years of probation.  His driver’s license was suspended for life.

In a disturbing report by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, 59-year-old Michael Joseph Hellen of Fort Walton Beach has been charged with molesting a teenage girl younger than 16 but older than 12.

No charges are being filed against Ronald Bliss of Birmingham Drive in Navarre for killing three dogs.  All reports indicate he was protecting his chickens from being attacked by the dogs in his yard.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission commends Seminole County on its unanimous vote Tuesday to approve an ordinance that will help deter bears from lingering in Seminole County neighborhoods. The ordinance requires residents to take precautions to remove food attractants such as unsecured garbage and encourages the use of bear-resistant trash receptacles.
