Lionfish are here to stay. That is the message NOAA Research Fisheries Biologist Tom Jackson delivers when discussing the invasive species that has been present in the Gulf of Mexico since 2010.
Starting next fall, the Blackwater River Wildlife Management Area will have a cleaning station again.
Through efforts of hunters, the Florida Forest Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the station will be reopened.

She searched for the presence of problems with heart function that would prevent him from having corrective heart surgery.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles’ recently released report indicates red-light cameras at intersections increase accidents cumulatively by nearly 15 percent. This finding is in direct opposition to the reasons provided for placing red-light cameras into service.
James Shumbert and Dr. Sheryl Roe were killed Feb. 11 when a small plane they were in crashed into the Gulf of Mexico off of Henderson Beach in Destin. The couple was flying in from Texas to celebrate Valentine’s day on the Emerald Coast.

The data for last year’s real estate sales and transactions have been released for 2015, and the news looks good for Santa Rosa County. According to these numbers supplied by the Clerk of Court public records, the county as a whole this past year saw total sales for property exceeding $1 billion. This historic high for real estate sales set an all-time record for the county, boasting total sales of about $1,016,353,862. With steady housing market increases year-to-year averaging 14.8 percent (2012-2015), Santa Rosa County citizens can only hope this trend continues, bringing new growth, families and economic opportunity to the local area.
