Blackwater WMA cleaning station set to reopen in fall
Starting next fall, the Blackwater River Wildlife Management Area will have a cleaning station again.
Through efforts of hunters, the Florida Forest Service and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, the station will be reopened.

Eglin hospital delivers unprecedented, complete cardiac care
The doctor leaned in and described to Robert Hyde what he might feel during his medical procedure. Shortly thereafter, she made a small incision to his inner thigh area. During the half-hour process, the surgical team watched the large, live-view X-ray machine as the doctor guided a long, thin, flexible green tube though Hyde’s blood vessels until reaching the left side of his heart. She searched for the presence of problems with heart function that would prevent him from having corrective heart surgery.

Studies show red-light cameras increase accidents

Plane crash claims life of local doctor
James Shumbert and Dr. Sheryl Roe were killed Feb. 11 when a small plane they were in crashed into the Gulf of Mexico off of Henderson Beach in Destin. The couple was flying in from Texas to celebrate Valentine’s day on the Emerald Coast.

Search continues for missing Navarre grad
In a video taken Feb. 10, a mother’s despair can be heard over social media as she tells her missing son, “We are looking for you…we love you and we aren’t going to stop searching for you until you are back here safely.” Senior Airman Keifer Huhman, a 2012 Navarre High School graduate, is missing and authorities need information to help find him.

County sees strong housing market gains for 2015
The data for last year’s real estate sales and transactions have been released for 2015, and the news looks good for Santa Rosa County. According to these numbers supplied by the Clerk of Court public records, the county as a whole this past year saw total sales for property exceeding $1 billion. This historic high for real estate sales set an all-time record for the county, boasting total sales of about $1,016,353,862. With steady housing market increases year-to-year averaging 14.8 percent (2012-2015), Santa Rosa County citizens can only hope this trend continues, bringing new growth, families and economic opportunity to the local area.
