Monica Nicole-Gonzalez Jones was sentenced by Circuit Judge Ross Goodman to a total of 33 years in state prison. Twenty-eight years of that sentence must be served as a minimum mandatory sentence. Jones will be required to serve 28 years day for day with no gain time. Judge Goodman also ordered Jones to pay a $550,000 fine.
Kendra Sue Cohens, 41, of Nina Street in Navarre was arrested Dec. 27, and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Deputies responded to a home in the 2100 block of Nina Street for reports of a cutting. And according to the arrest report, when the deputy entered the home she found Cohens’ mother, age 58, on the kitchen floor with a large amount of blood on the floor beside her head.
Although medical marijuana sales are supposed to be available in more Florida venues starting this week, the City of Gulf Breeze is considering a one-year moratorium on dispensing and treatment centers within its borders.
After more than 70 percent of Florida’s voters approved an amendment to the state’s constitution broadening allowable use of medical marijuana, law makers at the state and local level were scrambling to put regulations in place and sort out fact from fiction as Amendment 2 went into effect Jan. 3.
Though Amendment 2 has expanded the number of patients allowed to seek medical marijuana as treatment for illness, employees seeking this treatment should not expect any allowances in the workplace.
